It's the same book as the third edition that sells for QUITE a bit more, this edition has the super thin pages that would not hold up to much abuse. If you're going to throw this in a backpack for class use it's going to get battered and torn up. For professionals looking for a review this edition should do fine. I'll be reading it at work at my desk, and leaving it there so I don't expect it to get any damage. Overall a great buy and so far the book looks interesting and informative. I'll come back after i've read the book if I have any more specific commentary.(There IS a fourth edition already out so this is not the most recent edition. Look at the fourth edition description and it will tell you what they've added to that edition. I decided that for an additional $95 I didn't really need the small amount of added information)
I was very reluctant to read Hull's book for non academic purposes and the one attempt I made of this book proved to be the beginning of an enjoyable reading experience. I think this book should be made popular in the Financial Engineering programs in most universities while the other currently famous writings by Hull serve to develop specific topics in the industry. Many practitioners would benefit a great deal from this book, at least in as far as asking the right questions is concerned. There are many banking professionals who barely know what a bank is and could benefit from this book in many ways.
Complex language and no details on exercises.
Wrong edition. I thought the editions would be similar with minor changes--not so.
This is by far the worst text book I've read about financial risks. Examples given are not adequate, this is a book for people who already know the concepts and calculations of financial risks. For beginner who try to understand and learn about how to calculate risks and hedging, please stay away from this book. It is ambiguous, examples are not conclusive, after reading the book, you still won't be able to answer the problems at end of chapters. No wonder it is selling for a low price. Most post-baccalaureate or undergraduate text books cost over a hundred dollars.

A wonderful overview of financial risk management. I am not a financial analyst, but I can appreciate the clearly described systems put in place to adjust for risk. The book certainly gives the reader a greater appreciation of what financial analysts are considering when they look at a company's balance sheet.
